As an assisted reproduction center for mares only, RVSW can breed your mare with cooled or frozen semen, provide Embryo Transfers, ICIS management including oocyte aspiration and Embryo Vitrification commonly known as Embryo Freezing. RVSW also offers a comprehensive Foaling Program with 24-hour monitoring and on site, resident veterinarians as well as Year-Round Mare Care.

The Embryo Transfer process begins with breeding the donor mare shortly before ovulation. She is monitored with daily ultrasounds to establish the exact day of ovulation or when her egg is released from the ovary. At the same time, recipient mares are being monitored by ultrasound on a daily basis. Recipient mares in the correct stage of their reproductive cycles are then synchronized to the donor mare. Seven days after ovulation, the donor mare's uterus is flushed. The recovered fluid from her uterus is drained though a special filter cup designed to isolate the embryo. The fluid is then thoroughly searched for an embryo under a microscope. After the embryo is isolated, it is immediately prepared for transfer into a synchronized recipient mare. The recipient mare verified pregnant via ultrasound when the embryo is 11 days old. A heartbeat can be detected by ultrasound when the embryo is 26 days old.

Assisted reproduction in the mare is the sole focus of RVSW. We provide the kind of detailed care for your donor mare that will maximize her reproductive efficiency, through nutrition, preventative health care and a low stress environment. Our highly experienced and well trained staff, focused solely on reproduction, treats each mare as an individual and recognizes her particular needs or difficulties. We welcome the challenge of managing mares that have previously been reproductively unsuccessful. Our experience and expertise allows us to achieve the highest possible success rates.

While experience is important, access to immediate veterinary care is sometimes required. Royal Vista continues to provide onsite, resident veterinarians 24/7!!

Royal Vista recognizes that its success is dependent on its large herd of quality recipient mares that are screened for reproductive soundness, fed a nutritionally balanced diet, and maintained under a preventative medicine program. As a result of using quality recipient mares, attention to detail, and an experienced staff our high success rates allow us to offer a live foal guarantee that is unique in the industry. RVSW is also committed to providing the best possible client service and communication in the business.

This is best explained with a conversation. For this reason, we ask that you call our office at 405-527-0767, or email us so that we can call you, to explain the costs of embryo transfer as well as our LIVE FOAL GUARANTEE. We like to be upfront about our costs, and in an effort to keep your costs down, they can be variable. We feel that a more educated, well informed owner, is the best kind. We always welcome your calls to discuss any of these subjects in more detail.

Donor mares come from the best of every breed nationwide. They race, show and perform in every arena imaginable. They produce foals through embryo transfer for a variety of reasons.
Multiple Foals - Embryo transfer allows a mare to produce more than one foal in a given year. Three or more foals in a year is realistic for most mares. Through producing multiple foals a breeder can maximize the genetic contribution a mare can make to a breed over her lifetime. A mare could produce multiple foals for one registry or foals for more than one registry.
Performance Career - Embryo transfer allows a mare to produce foals without interrupting a performance career. Early season and well-timed mid-season transfers can work around race and show schedules. Post breeding season embryos can be vitrified to be transferred early in the next season.
Inability to Carry to Term - Older mares have age-related problems that may prevent them from carrying a foal, such as poor uterine environment, cervical tears, soundness problems, etc. Some younger mares may be unable to carry a foal due to injury, physical condition or poor fertility. A mare with a history of repeated abortion may be an ideal candidate for embryo transfer. The healthy environment of a surrogate/recipient mare's uterus can give these foals a proper start.
Late Foaling - Embryo transfer enables a late foaling mare to produce yet still be free for an early breeding date the following year.
Reduced Stress - An owner may not want a particular mare to go through the stress and physical risks of pregnancy and foaling. With embryo transfer the recipient mare takes that natural responsibility.

The most detrimental thing to long reproductive life in the mare is carrying her own pregnancies. Many mares in their late teens or early twenties that deliver a foal, have difficulty achieving pregnancy that same year. By utilizing embryo transfer before she becomes sub-fertile, many mares can extend their reproductive life well into their twenties. In other words, by using embryo transfer before it becomes a necessity, a mare can produce many more foals in her lifetime.

When the recipient mare is 26 days in foal and a heartbeat can be detected on ultrasound she becomes property of the client and can be picked up. Royal Vista offers all services throughout her entire pregnancy including frequent monitoring of the pregnancy with ultrasound, foal watch, foaling, halter breaking, and weaning. We are happy to be as involved in this process as the client wishes.

Donor management and embryo recovering and handling is a critical step in a highly technical process. We strongly recommend that if you are not bringing your mare to Royal Vista Southwest, you should seek out a facility that is well versed in breeding, flushing, handling and shipping embryos. They must be a known shipper with the major airlines to ship embryos due to TSA restrictions. For suggestions on finding a facility in your area please email or call us.

Embryo Vitrification is an emerging technology that allows us to freeze embryos for transfer at a later date. This is especially beneficial to performing mares as embryos can be recovered and vitrified during off season to accommodate show or race schedules. This is also a method of preserving genetics from older mares while they are reproductively sound.

Royal Vista provides mare management for mares that are having embryo transfer as well as mares that will carry their own foal. This includes all ultrasounds to determine the optimum time for breeding, ordering semen, coordinating delivery and/or pick up of semen, insemination, verifying time of ovulation, and all follow-up pregnancy exams. If the mare is an embryo donor it also includes the embryo flushing and transfer of the embryo and all follow-up pregnancy exams of the recipient. Royal Vista charges a mare management fee per cycle depending on whether the mare is to be bred with cooled or frozen semen and if the mare is to be flushed or carry her own foal.
