THREE WINDHAM-BREDS MAKE ALL AMERICAN FINAL
August 14, 2008 -- This year's $1.9-million All American Futurity (G1) will feature three horses bred by Jerry Windham, as 15 trials were run on a fast track on Thursday at Ruidoso Downs.
Windham's finalists include fastest qualifier Stolis Winner, second-fastest qualifier Jess Zoomin and eighth-fastest qualifier Winners Version. Campaigned by Windham, an AQHA Past President and resident of College Station, Texas, Stolis Winner won the seventh trial for his sixth victory in seven starts. The gelding by champion Stoli was coming off of victories in the June 1 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington Park and July 20 Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs.
"The pressure grows when you get a horse like this, but it couldn't be any better," said Windham of Stolis Winner. "I've had some great horses, but I can say I've never enjoyed a horse more than this one.
"When I started breeding and owning horses in the 1970s, I wanted to breed and own an All American Futurity winner," he added. "This horse is the culmination of a breeding program."
Jess Zoomin is owned by the Jess Zoomin Partnership, of which Windham has a 20-percent interest.
Trainer Heath Taylor also had a big day, as the conditioner saddled three finalists -- Stolis Winner, Jess Zoomin and ninth-fastest qualifier Mighty Corona. Jess Zoomin was making his first start since his runner-up effort in the Heritage Place Futurity.
"He really finished strong today," said Taylor of the Shazoom colt. "He hadn't had a race in so long, so I was impressed with the way he finished."
